Three Comstock area youth won scholarships for writing essays in a contest concerning Mining. That idea was organized by by the Overman Mining Company. The Overman Mining Company was mining the Overman Open Pit on the west side of the Historic Virginia and Truckee Scenic Railroad track opposite the Goldspring Hartford Complex. That operation was a different company, not a Goldspring operation. The Overman Mining Company never funded the scholarships. When Goldspring Inc Director Scot Jolcover heard about the let down he proceeded to rescue the situation. After our great BBQ lunch on October 11, 2008 at the Goldspring Inc Admininstration Area in an event tent for the BBQ, the three children receive $1,000.oo scholarships that they at one time may have thought would never happen. A press release in mid-2008 stated that the Overman Open mine was consolidated into the Goldspring pool of mining properties. Scot Jolcover has lived in the area of the Comstock for 29 years, so he gladly made the presentation to the children.
