I've found out that depending on who you fight, it's fine to go on the constant offensive, despite the generalization that he should be used defensively (guard/dodge, then attack). Against characters that have way shorter range than him, it's alright to constantly attack them since their counters can't even reach you - for example Zidane. Here's how Sephiroth's moves should be used: Blade Waves/Aerial Waves - his only good spammable Brave attack. Use it on range without fear of guard deflects. If it does hit and knocks your target down to the ground, follow it up with an Octa Slash. There's virtually no lag between the time your target gets up and before the first Octa Slash hit. Flashing Blade/Aerial Flashes - should only be used as a counter after a dodge or guard deflect. This should be the attack of choice...
