The Galax, Virginia-based furniture manufacturer has no plans to sell the plant or its equipment, referring to the plant closing as a "mothballing." Vaughan-Basset hopes to reopen the plant when business conditions change. They will continue to deliver furniture from Galax and from its Elkin and Boonville warehouses. Vaughan-Basset will apply for Trade Adjustment Assistance with the US Department of Labor for affected employees. Workers who qualify for the assistance may receive extended unemployment compensation, relocation allowances, job search allowances and a health coverage tax credit.

The move will result in the loss of 175 jobs, according to a notice sent to the New York Department of Labor.
