2009 VIOLETTA DUPONT VOCAL COMPETITION Opera at Florham Guild P.O. Box 343 Convent Station, New Jersey 07961 973 443 8620 The Opera at Florham Guild Vocal Competition is an annual event established by Violetta DuPont, held to benefit young singers between the ages of 20 to 35 who are pursuing a career in opera. There are two stages to the competition: preliminary and final. For the preliminary stage, audio cassette tapes or CD discs are submitted by the contestant to be adjudicated by a panel of judges. The adjudicators will evaluate contestants in the following categories: voice quality, intonation, technique, interpretation, and diction and stage presence. Finalist will perform 2 arias before a live audience and a panel of distinguished judges on Saturday, April 25, 2009. Oper in drei Akten von Giuseppe Verdi Libretto von Francesco Maria Piave Deutsche Textfassung von Walter Felsenstein Violetta will das Leben auskosten, denn ihre Zeit ist knapp. Im Rausch des Augenblicks sucht sie ihre tödliche Krankheit zu vergessen. Von allen begehrt steht sie im Mittelpunkt der vornehmen Pariser Demimonde, an wahre Gefühle aber kann sie nicht mehr glauben. Als ihr jedoch der junge Adlige Alfred glühend seine Liebe erklärt, ist Violetta berührt von seiner Utopie einer universalen Liebe und bricht radikal mit ihrer Vergangenheit: Gemeinsam mit Alfred flüchtet sie in eine scheinbare Idylle der Zweisamkeit, fernab der Großstadt. Doch Alfreds Vater Germont fordert von Violetta die Beendigung dieser Mesalliance, so dass sie schließlich in ihre alten Verhältnisse zurückkehrt. Nach einem öffentlichen Eklat bleibt Violetta allein. Ihr Zustand ist aussichtslos.
