Winner of the 1961 Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film, "The Virgin Spring" - based on the 13th century Swedish ballad called "Töres dotter i Wänge" - is the first film from Ingmar Bergman's very critically successful output from the 1960's.
In this scene the girls - Karin (played by Birgitta Pettersson) and Ingeri (played by Gunnel Lindblom) - are on there journey to bring candles to the church. Karin beautifully sings a very lovely melody.
