En medio de intensos enfrentamientos entre miembros de las Fuerzas Armadas y los remanentes de Sendero Luminoso en la localidad de Vizcatán, en una operación que se realiza desde hace más de dos semanas, se denunció la presunta desaparición de seis comuneros que habrían sido confundidos como terroristas. Según manifiestan los sobrevivientes de la incursión, un helicóptero habría procedido a bombardear varias zonas civiles. Al respecto, voceros del Comando Conjunto de las Fuerzas Armadas dijeron no tener información sobre estos casos, aunque sí reconocieron la muerte, hasta el momento, de cuatro presuntos terroristas.
